This is a great grey owl. Isn't he fantastic?

He's very large - in fact the largest type of owl in North America.
In contrast, this is a burrowing owl.

He's much smaller - and in fact, one of the smallest in the world.
The great grey owl is 68.5cm high, nearly four times as big as the burrowing owl.

His wingspan is nearly 2 metres - perfect for swooping down on prey from the air.
The birrowing owl's wings measure half an metre from tip to tip.

But that's not such a big problem because he hunts little things like insects and does most of his hunting on the ground.
Being little means that he can take his food down into his underground burrow to eat in peace!
The great grey owl hunts almost entirely by sound which allows it to find its prey even if it is hidden under snow or if hunting in complete darkness.

So although the burrowing owl is little and the great grey owl is large - both are Brilliant Creatures.
