If you go to the beach in the UK, one of the only things that might give you a nasty nip is one of these – an edible crab!
It might give you a little pinch, but it won't eat you – however nasty it may look!
But if you were out visiting the beaches of Florida, you might just have an unexpected close encounter with one of the ocean's most brilliant but deadly creatures – sharks!
There are 98 different species of shark living off the coast of the US – and 23 of them have been known to attack people.
One of the most fierce of them is the bull shark.

They're one of the most dangerous sharks in the world, and they can grow to twice the size of this one.
If you're out swimming on the Florida coast, there's nothing to protect you from a shark attack.

But that doesn't stop thousands of people coming to Florida every year to visit the beaches…
…and that's why, in 2001, almost all of half the reported shark attacks in the entire world took place in those waters.
This is the story of one girl who fell victim to a bullshark on Sunday 19 August 2001.

The beach was packed, and 17-year old Becky Chapman was at the beach with her friend Scott.
After a few hours of surfing, the waves died down.

Becky and Scott were relaxing on their boards a few metres from the beach.
A six foot bull shark had spotted Becky.

Without warning it attacked her at speed.
Here, she recalled the horror with which she looked down to see her leg in the shark's mouth.

She bravely tried to fight it off.
She was convinced she would die.

With blood pouring from her leg, Scott came to help her out of the water.
The shark had bitten through one of Becky's main arteries.

She was rushed to hospital where surgeons battled for two and a half hours to save her leg.
She made a good recovery, and now believes that the shark that attacked her mistook the whites of her hands and face for bait fish.
Becky says she's more interested in sharks now, and that she's still surfing.

She says she has more respect for them and the ocean.
She still has the scar on her leg – you can get some idea of how big the shark's mouth will have been to inflict that kind of damage.
