Meet Sausage the weasel – who loves eating ice cream! |
And meet Sylvie the stoat! |
Gail explained that if she were to take the lid off the Sylvie's box, she would be out eating trying to eat just about anything! |
Both the stoat and the weasel prowl the countryside of the UK hunting and killing.
There's not much chance that you'll see one, but you might well hear the screams of their latest victims – a rabbit perhaps, or an unfortunate vole!
They look similar, but they're quite different and easily told apart when you know what to look for.
Firstly, the stoat on the left can be twice the size of the weasel, and weigh up to 400g! |
Secondly, the stoat has a longer tail than the weasel, with a black tip at the end. |
For a third difference, if you look closely at the line between the top and bottom coat of the stoat is quite straight – whereas the weasel's is quite jagged. |
One thing they do have in common is the ability to turn themselves completely white!
Their coats change from brown in the summer to white in the winter, to blend in with the snow. |
But the stoat has a special power that the weasel doesn't – it can hypnotise its prey!
Here, the stoat is gazing into the rabbit's eyes. The rabbit is so terrified, it's forgotten to run away!
