Meet Belle – a lovely two year old springer spaniel.

Dogs like Belle are natural scavengers and they'll eat anything!
From golf balls to buttons, and from money to keys. |
|
|
Even bits of old carpet!
But Belle can beat all of those things – she ate stones! |
|
|
And not just one, or two. She ate 620 of them! |
|
|
This is an x-ray of Belle's stomach, taken after she'd eaten them.
What's even more amazing is that she ate them all within one hour! |

Luckily, her body rejected the stones and within a few hours she'd thrown up about a third of them. But that left over 400 still inside… |
|
|
…so she was rushed to veterinary surgery and given an emergency operation where the other stones were removed. |
|
|
Spaniels are retriever dogs which like to find and fetch things. They often pick up and eat what they find.
Within 24 hours of returning home, Belle ate more stones and had to be operated again! |
|
|
So her owners had to replace all the small stones in their garden with big ones.
