What's the worst animal in the world that you'd want living in your home?
How about a river horse - otherwise known as the hippopotamus!

In South Africa, Tony and Elsa Joubert, and their dog, have been sharing their lives with a hippo for three years!
|
|
|
When fully grown she'll be amongst the largest creatures on earth, weigh over 3000kg with teeth half a metre in length.
She'll also be able to outrun most people!

|
|
The hippo can bite a crocodile in half and is responsible for many human deaths each year.
Gail and Stephen weren't sure what to expect...

...but she seemed incredibly tame and friendly!
|

As Elsa explained how she first came across Jessica, she came over to say hello.

Gail and Stephen helped with Jessica's morning drinks!

Living a mile downriver are a group of wild hippos, so Tony and Elsa drove Gail and Stephen to see them as it's possible that one day, Jessica will join them.

|
Gail and Stephen were really nervous...

...but eventually they reached the river and were able to see the hippos in their natural habitat.
|
|
|
So what does the future hold for Jessica?
Hopefully one day she'll go back to the wild, but for the time being she's very happy where she is.
