Here's how to make a perfect bubble circle. You need a washing up bowl, a wire coat hanger, some washing up liquid, a piece of cotton and a straw. |
Start by carefully bending the coat hanger into a square shape. Wire hangers have sharp ends, so take extra care with this or get an adult to do it for you. |
Then take a piece of cotton about 30cm in length. Tie a loop in one end. |
Then, tie the top end of the cotton to the top end of the coat hanger. |
Fill the bowl with water, right up to the top. Add a good amount of washing up liquid. Now stir it, but go slowly because you don't want loads of bubbles on the top. |
Dunk the hanger into the bowl. Practice getting a flat bubble first, by bringing the hanger out of the bowl vertically. |
Try putting a wet hand through the hanger - you'll find that you can do it without bursting the bubble! |
Now - the tricky bit. Put your fingers into the loop... |
...and take the hanger out. Pop the bubble within the loop and gradually remove your fingers. |
Because a bubble always takes up the least amount of room, it pulls out the cotton in every direction equally, creating a perfect circle! |
Why not try tieing a piece of cotton from one end of the hanger to the other. Pop one side and you'll see the cotton forms a curve. |
Or, put a piece of cotton on each corner. Pop the mixture within the loops and you get a sort of curvy cross. |
