Can you ever stop a pin from bursting a balloon? Kate obviously can't! |
But Fearne can. Keep reading to find out how... |
To have a go yourself, just blow up an ordinary balloon. Tie the end up as you usually do. |
Carefully unfold a paperclip, like this. |
If you look closely at the balloon, you'll see that the top and bottom are darker than the sides. That's because the rubber isn't as tightly stretched in those areas. |
So, if you push the paperclip through one of those ends, the rubber won't tear and the balloon won't burst. |
But when the tightly stretched rubber is pierced, the balloon bursts immediately, with the rubber snapping back to its original size faster than the speed of sound. |
So how do you push a paperclip through the side of a balloon without it popping? It's easy - just put a small piece of sticky tape on first, then pierce through that. Success! |
And there you have a Little Eureka - piercing without popping. Give it a try - it'll make you pop-ular... |
