What else is great about autumn?

Conkers!
Bet you've never seen a conker this big before!

Crack a conker is a great game that you can play. Just like a piñata, the idea of the game is to try and crack open the giant conker by taking turns using real conkers.

Whoever manages to crack the conker gets the first pick of the goodies hidden inside!
If you want to have a go at making this, you could adapt the piñata instructions from the first series by using a balloon and building it up with paper mache.

Or, why not get one of these polysytryene balls from a craft shop? The larger size ones are hollow inside, and it's one of these that you need.
The first thing you need to do is pierce a hole in both halves of the polystyrene ball, at the top, on either side of the join.

Carefully use a cocktail stick for this.
Now you can start painting.

If you look at a real conker you'll see that there's a light brown area as well as a dark brown bit.

Try to copy that, so that you get something that looks like this.
If you paint on a layer of PVA glue when the dark brown paint has dried, it will leave the surface looking shiny and very realistic!
Now get a piece of string and a cocktail stick. Break off one end of the stick, and use it to thread the string through the polystryrene ball.

Just lie the string over the hole and push it through from the inside out.
Do the same on the other side.

Again, push it through from the inside out.
Reassemble the conker and gather up the lengths of string that are outside.

Make sure that they are the same length, cross them at the outside of the conker, and then tie them at the top, so that you can hang the giant conker up.
Now you can add the goodies.

In the studio, Stephen and Fearne used streamers, small toys and lots of sweets!
Put the giant conker back together again.

There's no need for anything to stick it together, it will just hold itself together, like magic!
To play, hang the giant conker in an open space.

Players take turns to bash the giant conker with real conkers on strings.

The first one to succeed gets the pick of the contents!
