Here's a great game for summer evenings - Croak K!
It's fun to make and, as always, fun to play. All you need is a mallet, a ball, and some frogs!
| |
The frogs look great and won't ruin a lawn like normal croquet hoops would.
In fact, you don't even need grass to be able to play - these frogs will stand up well on any flat surface.
If you want to make the game, you'll need to start by getting an empty, small-sized crisp tube.
| |
Draw around the crisp tube onto a piece of A4 paper or card six times.
First, do two circles in the middle - one on top of the other.
Then add two bulgy eyes, overlapping either side of the top middle circle, and two cheeks side by side by the bottom middle circle.
The whole thing should look something like this.
The template for the frog shape is next.
Do the legs by drawing around a dinner plate onto an A4 piece of paper or card. Have part of the dinner plate overlapping the bottom edge, like this.
Then get a saucer and draw round that too, below the line you just drew.
Again, the lowest edge should overlap the bottom edge.
| |
Add in a couple of lines at either side, like this, to make the feet.
Dab a little stick glue onto the back of the face shape, and stick it to the legs, like this.
That completes the template.
Draw around the template onto a strong piece of card.
| |
The feet are made by drawing around a saucer onto more strong card.
Make a slit in either side, then cut the circle in half.
Cut a couple of slits into the bottom of the feet...
| |
...and slide the feet into place.
The frog should now stand up.
You need to make a pair of feet for each frog, and you need six frogs to be able to play the game.
| |
Decorate the frogs by giving them faces.
These ones have card eyes and a little mouth and tongue, too.
The frogs are also numbered so that you can tell which order to play the game in.
The mallet is made by piercing a hole in the side of the crisp tube and threading a piece of garden cane through the hole.
Secure it in place with plenty of glue.
| |
You'll also need a ball to be able to play the game.
Any ball will do, as long as it's small enough to pass through the legs of each frog, of course!
The aim of Croak K is to hit the ball through the frogs in order, taking it in turns with your opponent.
The person who hits the ball through the sixth frog in the least amount of hits wins the game.
