This is blow football - but not as you know it.
The football is a tumbleweed.
And all the hard work is done by a balloon pump disguised as a cyclone.
| |
A couple of cows work brilliantly as goal keepers!
The pitch is covered in sand and the houses have been made to look like Hurricane Alley in Southern USA.
Start off by making the base from a large piece of card.
Cut out a bit at each end for the goals.
| |
Now get two long cardboard tubes - like the ones from inside rolls of wrapping paper - and stick them to either side of the pitch.
Stick a smaller tube on either side of the goal.
Then do the same round the other goal.
| |
Turn the pitch over, so that the tubes rest on the table.
Then cover the pitch with loads of PVA glue so you can stick the sand on.
When all the card is covered with glue add the sand.
use a trowel or spoon to help you. Make sure you go right to the edge of the pitch.
| |
Next, make the barriers to stop the tumbleweed ball falling off the edge. These are made from corrugated card and are decorated to look like southern style buildings.
Use some double sided tape to stick the barriers to the cardboard tubes.
| |
Orange bags make great goal nets - stick them on with tape.
To make the cow, start by sticking a small cereal box and a film canister box together like this.
| |
For the legs, cut the end off a large lolly stick.
Use this one as a guide to cut the other three legs to the same size.
Stick the lolly sticks in place.
| |
Paint the cow fresian style!
You could also add a woolly tail, some card ears, some googly eyes...
...and a big mouth and nose!
| |
For the tumbleweed, you'll need a small polystyrene ball and some string.
Run the string through some PVA glue so it's completely covered with glue.
| |
Wrap the string around the polystyrene ball.
Leave it to dry on a plastic bag so you don't get glue on the table.
And the cyclone pump is made from a balloon pump.
Cover it in grey string in exactly the same way you made the tumbleweed.
You could also add some straw and the odd farmyard animal that's been caught up by the twister.
