Halloween. It makes you think of ghosts and ghouls, doesn't it?
And pumpkins. So why do we make pumpkin heads?
To get rid of all those ghosts and ghouls, of course!
| |
But have you ever tried carving a pumpkin? Not only is it really difficult, you're always left with loads of mess, seeds and pulp. And when it's finished, it doesn't take long before it starts to rot!
So why not make a Finger Tips everlasting pumpkin?
It looks very realistic and it'll last forever - just the job for guaranteeing a ghost-free zone all year long.
| |
Start by blowing up a balloon.
Now cover the balloon in paper mache.
Instead of using newspaper, use coloured tissue paper - this'll give you the right look and also mean you don't have to bother with painting.
| |
Paste on the tissue paper with PVA glue mixed in equal parts with water.
Do about three layers.
With this everlasting pumpkin, there's no need for any of that tricky carving out of facial features - just stick them on!
| |
Get some black paper and draw on the features.
A white pencil - if you've got one - will make it easy to follow the lines when cutting out.
Stick the facial features on.
| |
Now cover the whole thing in another layer of PVA glue, but not mixed with water this time. Remember, PVA glue dries clear!
When it's dry, draw on some pumpkin segment lines with a permanent marker.
| |
Now brace yourself and pop the balloon, then carefully neaten off the edge at the bottom with a pair of scissors.
To add an authentic look, gently squeeze the pumpkin to give it a crumpled, realistic look.
| |
You're almost done.
For a finishing touch, get a push light. You'll find them in supermarkets and hardware stores. They're battery operated and so can easily be put anywhere!
Position the pumpkin head over the light - then all you have to do is wait for night to fall, and switch on!
Looks great doesn't it?
