If you like reading in bed you'll know how hard it is to juggle everything. You've got to hold book and torch, and turn the pages too!
So here's a great solution - the Finger Tips Glow Worm!
It clips onto the back of most book covers, making it really easy to turn the pages, whilst floodlighting them for ease of reading.
| |
To make the Glow Worm, you'll need to get a small strip light, like this one.
You can get these quite cheaply from hardware stores or value shops.
The main body of the Glow Worm is just a kitchen roll tube and a selection of polystyrene balls (which you can get from craft shops) and ping pong balls!
| |
The first thing to do is attach two pegs to one side of the kitchen roll tube, using sticky tape.
Next, roll up some strips of kitchen roll, like this...
| |
...and then just paste PVA glue (mixed with water) onto the kitchen roll tube with a brush.
Stick the strips of kitchen roll on.
Add an extra layer of PVA glue to the strips of kitchen roll, to make sure they stay in place and to give added strength.
You'll need about four or five strips of kitchen roll altogether.
| |
When done, the kitchen roll tube should look something like this.
Plug up both ends with scrunched-up kitchen roll.
The head and tail of the glow worm are next.
For the tail, you'll need a ping pong ball and a smaller polystyrene ball. Make a dent in one side of the ping pong ball and this will enable you to stick the two together, by using masking tape on either side.
| |
For the head, do the exact same thing but make a second dent in the ping pong ball and add a larger polystryene ball, like this.
To attach the head to the body, wrap some sandpaper around a marker pen and gently sand a groove into the big polystyrene ball part of the head.
The head should now fit snugly to the body!
| |
Stick the head and tail to the body with plenty of tape, then give the whole thing another layer of kitchen roll and PVA glue/water mix, to give it an older, wiser, wrinklier look!
Once that's dry, you can paint.
The colour you choose is up to you - Fearne used bright green.
| |
Facial detail is good fun - this one has drawn-on glasses and a map pin for a nose!
Next, hold the strip light against the glow worm's body.
Draw around three sides then cut out...
| |
...to give you something that looks like this.
Dab some glue on the inside of the card so that you can stick the striplight in place.
Make sure the switch is at the top.
| |
Don't worry about the strip light getting too hot - it only ever gets slightly warm.
