Here's a great idea for the garden.
It's a pot plant cat made from old wire coat hangers and a two tone ivy plant which you can buy from most gardening centres.
Start by getting an adult with good muscles to bend the wire coat hangers into the right shape.
They have sharp edges and can be tricky to bend so give the adult a pair of gloves too.
| |
To make the face, you'll need some nylon thread.
Make the nose by getting two beads like these.
Tie them onto a loop of the thread tied to a longer piece.
The big bead will be the nose, and the smaller bead will hold the whiskers, so it needs to have a big hole in the middle.
The whiskers are made from pipe cleaners.
Thread three lengths through the big hole in the smaller bead, and open them out.
| |
Now tie two knots onto the nylon thread so that the eyes will sit in place.
The eyes are made from beads or, if you like, glow in the dark modelling clay.
Just roll two balls, like this...
| |
...and poke a cocktail stick through the centre of each so that you'll be able to thread them on once they're baked.
Follow the instructions on the modelling clay packet to bake in the oven.
When done, they'll be hard.
| |
Just thread them onto the nylon thread.
The knots you tied should hold them in place.
That completes the cat's face.

This is the shape of the cat's body that you need one of the wire hangers bending into.
When done, just plant it in the same pot as the ivy plant.
The second hanger should be made into a long tail shape.
Plant this too, just to the side of the body.
| |
Tie the face into place, like this.
Add a collar and bell...
| |
...and wrap the ivy around the wire.
You may need a couple of plant ties.
Don't worry about any bald patches because, of course, the ivy will grow.
Just pop it onto a window sill and watch it take shape.
