Here's a great Green Finger Tip for putting your old trainers to good use.
Plant herbs in them!
These Herb Nerds look great and they make great presents for anyone who likes cooking or gardening - and they'll make a room smell lovely, too.

This is Basil - he has a very funky hairdo which is perfect for whenever you need some Basil in the kitchen.
Just give him a trim!
If you'd like to make a Herb Nerd, start by painting an old trainer with a bright design.
This one is red and green.
| |
Pull the flappy bit through to the front of the trainer.
It makes a perfect tongue!
Make a pair of eyes from ping pong balls.
Draw or paint on some pupils and add curly eyelashes cut from green paper or card.
| |
Stick them in place like this and, if you like, add a couple of goofy teeth underneath the tongue.
Make a lollipop for the tongue from an old lollipop stick.
Press it into a small polystyrene ball.
| |
Roll the polystyrene ball in some paint...
...allow to dry and stick into place.
| |
For the Herb Nerd's hairstyle, you could either buy a pot plant herb and sit it inside the trainer...
...or fill the trainer with soil and add seeds of your choice.
Don't forget to water them regularly - you'll be surprised at how quickly they grow!

You don't have to use herbs. You can use the same principle with any plant - this one's Ivy.
And this is Jasmine. She has a sweet smelling hairstyle!
