This is the perfect place to store those private possessions that you don't want other people to see.
And you'll always know when someone's In The Doghouse, even if you can't see them, thanks to the speech unit from a recordable greetings card!
The kennel starts off as a cat food box although any sturdy box will do, as long as it has a hinge.
| |
Stick two triangular sandwich packets on top, like this, to create the roof shape.
Cut out a piece of corrugated cardboard to make the actual roof.
| |
It's a good idea to cover the rest of the kennel in corrugated card too. Paint it brown, to get an authentic wooden effect.
When you're covering the kennel in corrugated card, take care not to cover up this hole, because that's what you'll use to open the kennel door.
| |
Cut out an arch shape from black card and add it to the front of the door...
...and paint the inside, too.
| |
Now you can add extra detail to the inside of the kennel, like pieces of newspaper on the floor, a drinks bottle top as a feeding bowl with modelling clay food inside, and bones cut from white card!
The guard dog itself is made from an upturned yoghurt pot (the kind with a separate corner compartment).
Stick it onto a cheese triangle container.
| |
Polystyrene balls, which you can get from most craft shops, make perfect eyes.
And ears can be cut from felt or card, or you could use pieces of moulded plastic from fruit punnet trays.
With a lick of paint, the dog really starts to look the part.
Why not add teeth, cut out a nose and make a foam tongue too?
| |
Next, stick the dog to the back of the kennel with tape or glue.
The barking noise is made by recycling the recording device of a recordable greeting card.
Cut the card down so that it fits onto the inside of the kennel door. Take care not to touch the recording device.
| |
Now you can record a suitable barking sound into the recording device and stick it to the inside of the door.
Make sure that the recording device against the hinge of the kennel.
To make the device work, cut out a triangular piece of cardboard, like this.
| |
Line it up and stick it to the inside of the kennel.
You need to be able to stick the recording device onto the triangle.
That completes In The Doghouse - just pop your diary or CD inside for safe keeping.
Anyone who tries to get at your possessions would be barking mad!
