Everybody knows that Finger Tips is the programme that shows you how make great things from bits of old rubbish and junk that you can find just lying around your house.
But where can you keep your rubbish for recycling?
| |
In the Finger Tips Load of Rubbish bin, of course!
It's a classic shiny bin complete with lid, handles and even a yucky overflow! Eww!
To make the main body of the bin you'll need an A1 sized piece of card and a small sized roll of kitchen foil.
Mark the height of the foil by drawing a point on the piece of card and then cutting it in half.
| |
You need to cover one half of the card in tin foil.
Roll it out shiny side down, and stick down well.
Fold the card round into a tube shape and place it into a foil dish with a rim.
| |
Keep the card in position by popping a couple of paper clips in place.
These will help you to glue it together and to the foil dish at the bottom.
To make the ridges on the bin, take a 30cm ruler and draw around it onto some corrugated cardboard.
| |
The shape you'll have is too long, so shorten it and round off all the edges.
Cut this shape out.
Use the shape as a template to cut out eight more.
| |
Cover each of the shapes in tin foil.
Wrap them up just as you would do a gift or present.
Stick the first ridge over the join on the bin, and the rest at equal distances around the rest of the bin.
| |
The lid is made from small and large foil trays.
For the lid handle, just cover a small piece of corrugated cardboard.
Make a crease in both ends, and stick it down onto the top of the small foil tray.
| |
You can make it look even more realistic by drawing on a couple of bolts with a permanent pen or marker.
Now stick the small foil tray onto the top of the larger one.
| |
To make the side handles for the bin, start by cutting a sweet tube in half.
Cover both halves in tin foil.
Get four bendy straws and slot them together to get a square shape.
Cover this in foil too.
| |
Slot one half of the sweet tube over the square of straws.
Just pull one of the straws out and pop it back in once you've threaded the sweet tube on.
Stick both handles on - one to either side of the bin.
| |
To make the overflow, you'll need to find a tray that's big enough to sit the bin on.
Cover the tray in cling film.
Pour some PVA glue into a bowl, and add in a whole bottle of food colouring!
Stir the mixture - you'll see that the colour of the glue changes immediately.
Give it a good mix.
| |
Pour the coloured glue into the tray, around the bin and over the cling film.
Now add the rubbish. It's important to do this whilst the glue is still wet so that it stays in position.
Chuck on whatever you like!
| |
Leave to dry overnight, and in the morning you should be able to peel the coloured glue mixture off the cling film!
Cool, eh?
Just add a bin liner, and you're ready to start using it.
