This Parrot Chute game is fun to make and fun to play.
The aim of the game is to parachute a parrot onto a leafy nest, and try to avoid the hungry hippo mouths!
For the parachute, cut a 30cm square from a plastic bag.
| |
Now cut four 30cm lengths of cotton.
Tape a piece of cotton to each corner of the square.
The body of the parrot is made from a brightly coloured bead.
Thread all the pieces of cotton through the bead.
| |
Then add a smaller bead for the head.
The parrot's beak is made from a piece of foam and stuck on with some double-sided tape.
Stick on some wobbly eyes as well!
| |
Add some coloured feathers to the top and bottom of the parrot for plumage.
To make the leafy nest targets, cut out three different sized circles of coloured card.
| |
Decorate them with green card leaves outlined with black marker pen.
For the hungry hippo mouths you'll need two baked potato containers - or fruit punnets work as well.
They're a brilliant hippo shape.
| |
Put one punnet on top of the other - with the shallow end of one box meeting the deeper end of the other, like this.
Hinge the punnets together with strong tape.
| |
Use polystyrene balls to make the eyes, and attach them with double-sided tape.
And the hippo ears are made from coloured card or foam.
The nostrils are made from film canister lids.
| |
Complete your hippo with some teeth made from white foam and a pink foam tongue.
Make as many nests and hippos that will fit in your playing area.
Why not make some lakes for your hippos?
| |
For extra Parrot Chute fun give the nests and hippos scores.
If you land on a nest you get 100 points...
...but watch out for the hippos, if you land in their mouths you lose all the points!
Oh no!
