Here's a pinball game with all the usual thrills and spills, but with the added attraction of a magical setting that'll keep you playing for hours.
It starts as a storage box, two plastic water bottles, an egg box or two, some corks and a kitchen roll tube.
| |
Start by sticking some coloured card into the base of the box.
Next, make an opening in the bottom edge.
The opening needs to be big enough to fit a kitchen roll tube into.
| |
The kitchen roll tube needs cutting down so that you have a 3cm scoop in one end, like this...
...and a sort of snake mouth in the other.
| |
To make the firing mechanism, pierce holes in either side of the big opening you made earlier.
Use a sharp pencil for this.
On the inside, thread an elastic band through each hole and secure in place on the outside with two cocktail sticks.
| |
Now take another elastic band and secure a bead onto one end.
Double it around the first elastic bend, pull the bead through the loop and it'll be securely attached.
| |
Make another hole in the middle of the box.
Pop some modelling clay underneath as you put the pencil through, so that you protect both your Finger Tips and the surface you're working on.
Decorate the kitchen roll tube so that it looks like a snake.
| |
The scoring cups are made by cutting down an egg box.
Paint them black and white so that they look like a spider web.
The scoring hat in the middle is really easy to make.
| |
Just take a semicircle of card and fold in round into a cone shape.
Make it big enough so that a ping pong ball will fit inside.
When you're happy with the size, secure it with some sticky tape.
| |
To make the hat tilt, take a cocktail stick and glue a bead onto one end.
Poke it through the tilting hat, like this.
| |
Now you can decorate the base. Cutting turrets and rooftops from card and stick them to the back of the box.
Stick towers in each corner.
| |
They're easy to make.
They're just empty water bottles wrapped in corrugated card with a cone roof.
For the wall, take a long strip of card and cut battlements into it.
| |
Wrap around the inside edges of the boxes.
Stick into place with sticky tape.
Make a dungeon from a triagular yoghurt pot.
Cut a hole into the middle of the bottom edge of the box. If the ball goes in there, no points are scored!
| |
Stick the firing snake and scoring cups in position.
It's a good idea to secure them with sticky tack first, so that you can test the game.
Once you're happy, then you can glue them down.
Make a bastion from card and stick this up in the top left hand corner.
This will stop the ball from rolling right the way around the wall and into the dungeon.
| |
Raise the game slightly...
..,so that you can attach the scoring hat.
To help it tilt, pop a bead like this on the cocktail stick underneath.
| |
This will help it tilt more smoothly.
For extra ideas, how about these small turrets?
They're just corks wrapped in corrugated card with a cone roof.
| |
And this creaky gate looks great, doesn't it?
It's just made from lolly sticks.
Plus, of course, don't forget to add some scores.
| |
Have fun!
