How would you like your own room guard? Someone who'll keep intruders out, but hold the door open and be polite if necessary!

Well, this chap does just that. But if you're worried that you might not be able to afford his wages - fear not. Just keep reading!
The Finger Tips room guard door stop starts life as nothing more than an empty two litre pop bottle!

Finished all that pop (no burping now!), rinse out the bottle and then peel off any labels.
Make the arms first. Get three sheets of old newspaper for these.

Fold them in half, and then scrunch them up like this. Cover them completely with sticky tape.

And of course, you'll need two!
Stick the arms onto both sides of the bottle.

Use lots of sticky tape for this, to make sure that they stay securely in place.
Fill the bottle with sand next.

This will give weight to the room guard, so helping him (or her) to keep doors easily propped open.

Use a funnel for this, and fill the bottle to about a third full. Screw the lid on.
It's time to make the base now. Start off with a piece of thick cardboard.

Place the bottle on the cardboard. Draw around the base, and then draw an extra shape added onto that, just like the one you can see opposite.

Carefully cut it out.
Put the bottle on top of the cardboard disc that you've just cut. Stick them together with lots of tape.

This can be tricky so why not get someone to hold the bottle and base while you put the tape on?
The feet come next: they're made from tightly scrunched up balls of newspaper.

Stick these onto the cardboard base, on the extra shape that you drew earlier.
The head is next - this is simply a one pint plastic milk carton turned upside down!

Snap it on top of the bottle, and then cover the whole thing in paper maché.

(Remember: paper maché is just layers of old newspaper strips pasted on with a mixture of PVA glue and water in equal quantities.)
When the paper maché has dried you can start to add more detail.

Hair can be made from little balls of tissue paper, scrunched up and stuck on with PVA glue.
Now you can paint your room guard door stop.

The colours and design are up to you, but for an authentic "bouncer" look, add a goatee beard, a smart suit and shiny shoes!
And for other ideas, what about painting your room guard door stop to look like Frankenstein's monster?

Or a Roman guard perhaps - it's your choice!

Whatever you decide, your room guard door stop will be on duty all the time for you, and he'll never give you any trouble!
