These Finger Tips Safari Stools will brighten up any room.
If you've got an old stool that you want to makeover into something truly wild, just read on!
| |
Any old wooden stool will do, but remember to check that it's OK to transform it with whoever owns the stool before you get cracking!
The first thing to do is paint the stool with white emulsion paint.
You'll need to do about three coats.
| |
Of course, the zebra stool needs stripes.
You can either paint these straight on, or for a more realistic effect, take some strips of masking tape.
Tear right down the centre of the masking tape.
It doesn't matter if it's a bit wonky.
| |
Lie the first strip of torn masking tape over the stool, like this...
...then add another.
Stick the flat sides together so that the rough edges are on the outside.
Keep going, tearing and sticking until you've covered the whole stool.
| |
When done, it'll look something like this!
The bits protected with masking tape will stay white, while everything else will be painted black in a moment.
When you're masking the legs, don't go right down the bottom, because most zebras run out of strips towards the bottom of their legs.
| |
To paint, use a sponge dipped in black acrylic paint.
Splodge it all over, just as you would if you were painting on a stencil.
| |
If you fancy making the leopard stool, give it three base coats of yellow emulsion paint.
To make the leopard's paws, you'll need some pulp paper.
It's shredded newspaper soaked in water overnight, then squeezed and mixed with PVA glue.
| |
You need four balls of pulp paper for each foot.
Arrange them around the legs like this...
...then just squidge them in place like this.
| |
Add the spots with brown acrylic paint.
Get hold of an old glove and bunch your Finger Tips together like this.
Dip them into the paint...
...and practice on paper first.
When you're happy you can have a go on the stool...
| |
...where you should get an effect like this.
If you're making the zebra stool, you can peel off the masking tape when the paint has thoroughly dried.
The effect is great!
| |
The zebra hooves can either be painted on or made from cones of shiny black card, stuck on with glue, like this.
It's a good idea to varnish the paint so that it doesn't get chipped.
And don't forget to make a tail for your zebra! This one's cut from card and painted in a zebra style. It also has some wool on the end.
| |
Just stick it to the the stool, like this.
To complete the leopard, you just have to paint the paws...
| |
...and add a tail.
This one is made from some fake fur splodged with paint in the same style as the stool itself...
...and for extra effect why not add some orange spots too?
