This is the Finger Tips Safe House.
It's got a locking device that keeps sticky fingers off your property!
| |
The Safe House is made from a cardboard box.
Make sure that the box you pick opens at the front and is big enough to store all your secret things inside.
To make the door, draw round the box onto a piece of strong card.
| |
Draw an extra ruler-width strip on the side of the rectangle - this will make the hinge.
Then cut the shape out.
Next, draw round a small bottle top in the centre of the piece of card.
| |
Cut the circle out, so that the bottle lid fits easily through it.
Then score and fold along the ruler line.
| |
Stick the door onto the side of the cardboard box.
You could reinforce the hinge with some paper fasteners for extra security.
| |
To make the locking device, put the bottle lid through the hole in the door and stick it to the cardboard box behind.
Draw a rectangle in the centre of the box around the lid.
Then cut the rectangle out.
| |
Trim around the rectangle...
...then put the bottle top back through the hole.
Then add a colourful disc to make a dial.
| |
To stop the bottle top falling through the hole, stick a bigger lid on top of the small bottle top.
This shiny metal lid from a custard pot is great because it looks extra strong and more like a safe dial!
When the two rectangles line up, the safe opens.
| |
When the rectangles aren't lined up, then the safe door stays locked.
Line the rectangles up so that the door can open. Make a mark at the top of the card circle and a mark on the lid like this.
When the these two lines line up the door will open.
| |
Select your secret code number - Stephen chose the number 4 - and write that below the mark on the lid.
Then turn the lid, and make another mark.
Write the next number.
| |
Continue round the dial, evenly spacing the numbers, until you complete it.
Decorate the Safe House whichever way you want. This one is painted black with some mirror card windows and a heavily bolted door.
You could also add a card roof with card strips for tiles.
| |
This castle is brilliant: it comes complete with turrets and a drawbridge that opens when the correct code is on the dial!
