Why not make a Finger Tips seed card?
They're made partly with seeds, so when the card's been enjoyed, the seed part can be taken off the card, planted and with a bit of luck - a beautiful plant should result!
Pretty good, eh?
|
To make your seed card, start off with some old newspaper, a bowl and a pair of scissors. Cut the newspaper into very small strips.
When you've filled half of the bowl with the strips, add enough water to cover the paper and stir.
Keep stirring every few minutes until the paper turns into pulp.

 |
To brighten up the pulp, add a small amount of food colouring.
Then add a good sprinkling of seeds, and stir well!
|
Now you'll need an old tea towel. Lay it flat over some old newspaper.
Then, with a teaspoon, put a blob of pulp onto the tea towel and squash it down. Then fold the tea towel over the top, and roll flat with a rolling pin.

 |
You need to allow these blobs of pulp to dry thoroughly. It usually takes about two days.
When dry, carefully peel them off the tea towel.
And now it's time to incorporate the blob into the design of the card!
|
Take a piece of card and fold it in half. Stick the seeded paper blob onto the front with glue and design the rest of your card around it.
Some ideas you might want to try include a space scene, with your blob as a planet, a blooking flower or a blobby alien!

 |
Once the person who's received the card has finished with it, all they have to do is tear up the seeded paper blob and plant it in a flowerpot full of soil.
If it's looked after and watered regularly, a lovely plant should result!
