These snow shakers look absolutely beautiful and they're very easy to make.
You can put anything in them - and they make fantastic presents, too.
| |
Want to make one? No problem!
Get yourself a screw lid jar. Clean it out, and take off the label.
Lie the lid flat side down and stick some modelling clay in the top.
Mould the modelling clay into a hill shape, but remember to leave a gap around the edge so that you can get the lid back onto the top of the jar!
| |
What goes inside is up to you!
If you're making one as a present, choose something appropriate to the person you're making it for. So if they like skateboarding, why not make a small skateboard?
You could make anything you like out of the bake-in-the-oven modelling clay. Check out this Finger Tips hand!
Or why not use spare Christmas decorations from around the house? Anything at all will do, as long as it's going to be OK in water.

Whatever you choose, stick it on top of the modelling clay and mould it in, so that it stays secure.
To make the snow fall gently, you need some glycerin. This is a syrupy liquid which you can buy cheaply from your local chemist.
Mix up the same amount of glycerin and water in a jug.
| |
Now add glitter, and give the mixture a good stir.
Pour the mixture into your jar...
| |
...and now you can add the lid.
It's a good idea to do this over a tray in case of any accidental spillage!
Screw on the lid tightly, give it a shake, and enjoy!
