If your desk is a mess, why not make this Venus Fly Trap Tidy?

It's great for grabbing up all those small bits and bobs that clutter it up.

And it's so simple to make!
The first thing you'll need are some clothes pegs.

The best ones to use are the plastic type - especially red ones - but you could paint some wooden ones instead. It's up to you!
Now you need a piece of red card.

Take one of the pegs, place it on the card, and draw a leaf shape around the peg.

Make sure that the shape is slightly bigger than the peg itself.
Carefully cut the leaf shape out, and then use it as a template to cut out another eleven.

You need twelve red leaves altogether.
You need some green card next.

Cut out twelve green leaves that are bigger than the red ones.

So put a red leaf on the green card, and draw a larger leaf shape around it. Once you've drawn twelve, carefully cut them out.
Now, stick the twelve red leaves to the twelve green leaves.
It's time to make the stems now.

Use gardening wire for this, because it's easy to bend. Be careful when handling it, or get an adult to help you if you're not confident!

You need a double ruler length (about 60cm) for each stem - measure it out and cut the wire to size.
Bend the wire over, so that the thickness is doubled.

Now, carefully thread the open end through the hinge of one of the pegs. Wrap those open ends underneath the hand grips of the peg to secure it in place.
You can make the stems look much more realistic by wrapping green tissue paper around the garden wire.

Stick the tissue paper in place with tape.
Now stick two of your leaves the peg on each stem.

Use PVA glue for this, and make sure that the green sides face outwards.
That completes the stems.

It's time now to start the planting. For this you need to cut some green leaf shapes from card.

You can make them look more realistic by drawing on some veins with black or dark green marker.
You can also make the leaves curl up by running the barrel of a pencil or pen along the back. The more you do it, the more curly it becomes!

Now - stick these leaves onto the inside edge of a flowerpot with tape.
Take your stems, and bend the bottoms to right angles, to allow them to stand up when they're placed in the flowerpot.

Arrange them however you like, then cover the hole in the bottom and add sand to give weight to the pot.
One final Finger Tip for added realism:

Dark coloured bird seed, when sprinkled over the sand, helps to create a soil-like look!
That completes the Venus Fly Trap Tidy. Use it to grab hold of postcards, tickets, notelets and vouchers.

But be warned: once you've made it, you'll have no excuse for having a messy desk any more!
